A couple of nights ago I had the pleasure of going to artist RO James’ showcase. It was one the best decisions I made for 2017 and to think I almost passed because I was feeling a bit tired! I’m already familiar with two of his most recent singles Permission and Already Knew Dat off of his El Dorado album, both songs I really enjoy. Funny thing is when I like a song a lot, I really go there with the listening sessions and keep it on repeat. I have been doing that for the past couple days listening to Already Knew Dat back to back like a crazy person!
One of the reasons I really enjoy showcases as opposed to concerts is their intimacy. You can really see the artist, feel them out, feel the energy of the band, and overall synergy of their performance. This can make or break singers in particular, because sometimes listeners find out they really can’t sing at all. For RO James the event just boosted him even higher on my musical radar. Set at film director David Lynch’s mythical nightclub Silencio in Paris’ chic 2nd arrondissement, the club’s other-worldly feel intermixed well with James’ persona, very deep. His passionate, raspy voice is wonderful and him along with his incredible band really rocked the room. Final Word: Dope musician, dope band, true artistry and passion. Lastly, I’m excited to announce that an interview will be coming soon!
