Her Travels: Barcelona Besos Baby!

August 24, 2017 by Suedonym Leave a Comment

This isn’t the first time I have been to Barcelona. Oh no, in fact I had gone there once before many moons ago. I had eaten something prepared not quite right and got what the locals call ” la tourista”, or what I like to call food poisoning. It wasn’t fun and I hated every moment of that experience. Which also lead me to hate Barcelona. I took it that I couldn’t eat there and therefore I would starve in said place.

Not one to stay angry for long, I decided to give the place a second chance. Boy, am I glad that I did! I ate good food and had an amazing time on the beach, just soaking up the sun! I also found some amazing graffiti, as you can very well see. I have many more shots to come, so keep your eyes peeled for them. In the meantime, enjoy me frolicking along the Catalonian streets in my black and white striped dress against the black and white hands. Besitos!

Gypsy Ride

July 1, 2017 by Suedonym 1 Comment

Spent some time hanging out in the 18th arrondissement of Paris. There I found a really cool carousel. Luckily no kiddies were around and I figured it would be the perfect backdrop for a shoot. Do you like? Haha. Also, those braids were the longest I have ever had them. Reaching my waist, they were heavy as ever, but fun overall. I will be reinstalling some box braids, but in a different kind of style. And in case you were curious, I like to use Carol’s Daughter Mimosa Hair Honey Protective Styles Calming Tension Spray (whew that was a long title) or Africa’s Best Braid Sheen Spray with Conditioner, each are clickable links if you’d like to know more. Yet, I have been known to simply use my favorite Shea Moisture deep conditioner mixed with water on my braids daily too. Gros bisous and peep the rest of my fave shots below! BTW, there’s a part 2 coming soon!

Pastel Hair for Noobs: Colorful Hair Done Easy

May 16, 2017 by Suedonym Leave a Comment

I love the idea of dyed hair. However, I’m hardly a hairstylist and I don’t want to pay all this money to get my hair dyed. Enter hairstylist Benjamin Mohapi‘s “Moody Girls” temporary hair color line. It claims to allow one to achieve their pastel hair color dreams without all the fuss. Featuring five different shades from pink to coral, the collection makes changing your hair color easier than ever. All one has to do is shampoo hair and towel-dry until it stops dripping, then apply the product evenly from root to ends. Rinse everything off after 15 minutes and done. Your coif is completely transformed and should stay that way for three to six washes. Now in my case I’d also have to condition my hair heavily, but I’d be curious to see the effects on curly, kinky locks and also if it is drying. The last time I dyed my hair, well, it looked good at first, but I have been paying the price ever since. Dried, tangly ends that just needed to be cut off. Final word: Curious minds would love to know, do it work for real for real? On all hair types?

Her Hair: Dominican Salon in Paris

March 8, 2017 by Suedonym 6 Comments

Ever since I moved to Paris I had been on the hunt to find inexpensive salons. Back in the states, in particular New York, my friends and I enjoy the pleasures of going to Domincan salons. Granted, all are not created equal, but when you find the right one, it is magic. I had my spot I would go to in Queens. I loved them because they knew how to handle natural hair, as well as relaxed, and were still reasonable priced. In Paris, there are natural hair salons, however, they’re usually owned by an American and the prices are a bit high. No shade, but I wanted them DR prices. Well I was in luck, because I found one last year and they are not overpriced. The name of the salon is Institut Alcantara. Unfortunately they do not have a website, but they can be found at 19 Rue le Peletier in the 9th arrondissement, off metro Richelieu-Drouot. The service was great, fun staff, who genuinely care about hair health, which concluded with a successful blowout I so much love. All in all, I was very impressed with how they took on my natural hair without a problem. No questions, no shock and no hassle. I have to say, I wasn’t taking good care of my hair at the time. It had been dyed and I was not doing protein treatments or feeding it water. More on that later.

Intently listening as Sophia, my stylist, explained to me different products.

Applying the luxurious deep conditioner.

My favorite part, the rinse out.

Setting the hair under the hooded dryer…

Sophia styling my hair.

Final result: Mary J. Blige flips…I was pleased overall.

Sunlight and Shading Gone Right

February 3, 2017 by Suedonym Leave a Comment

Often people rave about the amazing photos one can obtain when using natural light. This is most certainly the truth. Every time I play up that natural sunlight around dusk, the photos are phenomenal. Take this shot for instance, simply perfect. On top of that, the shadowing is just epic.

Another point I’d love to point out is how easy it is to dress during the summer. I literally am wearing a tank from H&M and this Brixton hat with some shades I found at a tourist shop in Berlin. For me, it looks as though I put a ton of thought into this outfit. Gotta love it!
