Adventures of a Pink Tank Dress pt. 2

September 13, 2017 by Suedonym Leave a Comment

You guys, the level of art on the walls in Barcelona is insane! I am going to have at least 5 or 6 different posts strictly dedicated to the walls and my pink dress. I went in a 2 block radius and got a majority of the photos. Please, bare with me. Yet, in my defense, isn’t that what this blog is all about…finding the beauty in everyday locations and places? I think so. I hope my posts continue to inspire you to get out there and find cool walls, cracks and crevices no matter where you are and find the beauty in them. After all, we are all artists in our own rightful way. Once again, this simple pink dress makes for the perfect outfit concerning the beautiful background. I’m in love and I never thought I would ever set foot in Barcelona again after catching food poisoning back in 2011…yes I held a mini grudge. What can I say, ya girl likes to eat. ha.

Artists Know Best: Sushi Edition

Meet Chef Yujia Hu of Milan’s SakanaSushi Milano restaurant. He’s dope and I’ll tell you why. He satiates not only customers tummy, but his own artistic cravings. How? By creating “Shoeshi” in his spare time. Clever name for some dope kicks, that are edible. You see, Yujia created his own tasty artful incarnations of some of your local sneakerheads favorite kicks. With the assistance of a tooth pick for the details, he has managed to not only touch upon kicks, but also recreate brand logos like The North Face and even popular Manga characters. The names of each ”shoeshi” are a clever, too: adidas “Hu-Giri” and “Nori” NMD, YEEZY “Seaweed Stripes” Zebra, Supreme “Sticky” Sliders. Based in Italy, unless you plan to travel to Milan soon, you’ll be hard pressed to try the delicious treats. However, you can buy image prints online here!

Artists Know Best: London’s Brick Lane (A Visual Tour)

June 4, 2017 by Suedonym Leave a Comment

So I’ve already discussed the wonders of London’s Brick Lane before. However, I didn’t quite catch you all up on the beauty of the graffiti going on there. So, today I’m going to offer a visual tour of some of the street art that I was lucky enough to see and capture. I tried my hardest to credit the artists, but unfortunately I wasn’t able to get everyone. If you yourself know who posted such masterpieces, please feel free to comment their names below. Enjoy!

Audio Tattoos: Ink That Makes Noise!

May 23, 2017 by Suedonym Leave a Comment

via 949therock.com

As many of my readers already know, artists always know best. California based tattooist Nate Siggard developed one awesome idea: soundwave tattoos! Basically, he got the idea after adding some ink to his friends who each got a waveform design of British singer Elton John’s song “Tiny Dancer” tattooed. His girlfriend Juliana asked “wouldn’t it be cool if you could play it back?” and Nate realized at this moment, he could make that happen. So, he founded his company Skin Motion, LLC  and is now fully committed to launching his company and making sound wave tattoos possible for everyone. Basically, via an application, one will be able to play any original sound they like via a coinciding tattoo soundwave. This is so special because it could be a unique way to keep sound memories of deceased family and friends. For example, if you had a voicemail from a deceased person, it could remain as a sound tattoo.  Final Word: Gotta love when technology and art meet to create something exceptional.

Artists Know Best: London’s Brick Lane is for Artists

May 18, 2017 by Suedonym Leave a Comment

I recently spent the week in London with my mom and extended family. It was such a good time, because as many times as I have gone to the popular English city, I don’t know much about it. Having my family there with me, and as they too were newbies, gave me the perfect excuse to take up some tours. After some heavy “googling”, I stumbled upon Unseen Tours and it sparked my interest because of its premise. The award winning company uses guides who are homeless or were formerly homeless to show folks around. For me, that is such a beautiful idea. They are paid tours, but 60% of the proceeds go directly to the guides. Knowing all of this definitely made me feel good about participating in the tour. Not only this, but I was sure we would get a peek into another side of London, from someone who knows the streets intimately. The route I chose was the Brick Lane excursion, which lead us to Pete as our guide. He told tales of Jack the Ripper and how much the now gentrified area started out in a drastically different form.

Pete liked me an my peoples so much, he even told us about these abandoned train tracks called Nomadic Community Gardens. The transformed abandoned area places raised beds of garden allotments amongst a village of tents, vans and dens of upcycled wood and canvas houses. I could sense the creative energy steaming from all areas of the park as it is packed with graffiti, sculptures made of tires, a repurposed shacko in an opera house, and other dope pieces of art. The place is magical. It reminded me a bit of if Sanford and Son’s junkyard landed somewhere in the land of Oz. To think, we would have never found this place without good old Pete.
